1984 inthe Bunker (Back to the USSR)

A 3,000 m2 bunker in the outskirts of Vilnius 5 meters bellow ground,

The Bunker: a survival show where USSR revives…

‘1984’ – the twentieth century anti-utopia, a book written by George Orwell while Stalin was still in power.

He envisioned what life would be like in a future totalitarian society in the far-off year of 1984, the times of the Big Brother watching you at all times.

But what if we, living in the twenty-first century, did not look to the future as did G.Orwell, but instead to the past, to the real 1984 in the Soviet Union?

Have you forgotten what it was like, or have you never seen it in general?

Would you like not only to see, but experience firsthand what the life was like back then?

Welcome to the USSR, preserved / reconstructed in The Bunker…

In an enclosed 2 hectare territory right near Vilnius, in a forest, there is a 3,000 sq. m. secret two-level underground labyrinth built at the time of the Cold War in the 80’s, as an alternative TV station for use in case of a nuclear war between the USSR and USA.

There was no war, and in 1991 the bunker was occupied by the Soviet army while Lithuania fought for its independence.

Lithuania regained its independence and became a member of the EU. Since then, the only residents of the bunker are bats. No outsider has been there since the Soviet troops left. No Lithuanian tourists, no foreigners. You are the first one to enter the no-mans land.

Upon your arrival to the bunker you will be met by Soviet guards with dogs. For two hours you will part with whoever you are in this century; all your stuff, your money, cameras and cell phones. Dressed in grey Soviet threadbare clothing you will delve into the life of a simple Soviet citizen full of fear and uncertainty. You will be led through a reinforced concrete slabs maze five meters down under, you’ll see Soviet television broadcasts and visit shops from 1984, you’ll be interrogated in a KGB office, taught the USSR anthem, you’ll get used to carrying around a gas mask and putting together a Kalashnikov automatic rifle. You’ll have to dance to the music of the times and sink in to the soviet spirit, let it sink in you. Will you be able to? Will you endure?

If so, before the door to freedom opens, an authentic Soviet dinner awaits you, served on authentic tableware of the times with a complementary glass of real Soviet vodka. Those who are not pressed for time can enjoy the other side of the Soviet life, the life of the powerful: The Soviet bathhouse or an extraordinary feast in the special hall where the exclusive Communist Party Central Committee dinner will be served – white tablecloths and crystal tableware, sturgeon, caviar and cognac.

The survival show, “1984 in the Bunker “(Back to the USSR), is not for the weak, it’s certainly not for children under 16 and even not for every senior. Attendance is not recommended if you suffer from heart problems, asthma, and epilepsy or claustrophobia.
